Vincent Kompany suggested that Jurgen Klopp’s influence on the referee led to his yellow card during Burnley’s 3-1 defeat to Liverpool.
Referee Tim Robinson cautioned Klopp for his frustration in the technical area, and Kompany believes the referee sought to level things by booking him.
Despite going into halftime level, Liverpool secured the win in the second half with goals from Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez, putting them at the top of the Premier League.
Kompany, booked for the third time this season, expressed his frustration, attributing the yellow card to Klopp’s earlier caution.
“I’d say it’s a little bit to do with the game,” Kompany explained. “I think I got booked because I should have paid attention to the fact that Jurgen Klopp got booked because then all I think the referee did was just went looking for me.
“I opened my arms out which I have done exactly that in many games. Then all of a sudden the card comes out. Out of nothing. Now I am suspended for the next game. I should have known it was just a way to balance it out and it doesn’t make sense, but hey, we have to keep going. No sulking.”
As a result, he will be suspended from the touchline when Burnley faces Arsenal next Saturday. Kompany acknowledged the need to move forward without dwelling on the incident, stating, “No sulking.”
